Course Overview:
We offer a Level 3 Diploma course which provides you with the qualification* needed to become a registered Pharmacy Technician after 24 months of part-time study (online/blended) and practical work experience. This course is suitable for international pharmacy graduates who would like to get UK pharmacy experience and complete a pharmacy technician course.
This course is available for individuals who have completed a Pharmacy degree or a Pharmacy Technician degree/diploma overseas, however, we welcome students with all eligible qualifications. The student must be employed in a community pharmacy, GP practice, care home or hospital setting in the UK as a trainee pharmacy technician for the duration of the course. During this course, students will be taken on a learning journey acquiring knowledge of science, medicine and therapeutics. They will learn all the necessary behaviours, techniques and expertise required to operate as a competent Pharmacy Technician in the UK.
On completion of this course, the student will be able to dispense prescriptions accurately, have an excellent knowledge of medications and effectively support other pharmacy services.
*We are currently undergoing an approval process to deliver the Level 3 diploma and the delivery is subject to full approval by our Awarding Body. Pharmacy Technician Diploma
Course Structure:
This course* carries 132 credits. It involves 21 Mandatory Learning Units which are summarised below:
- Accurately dispensing prescriptions
- Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology
- Actions and Uses of Medicines
- Contribute to Service Improvement in the Delivery of Pharmacy Services
- Medicinal and Non-Medicinal Treatments of various conditions
- Medicinal Methods for the Prevention, Protection from and Treatment of Infections
- Personal Development
- Principles of the Management of Pharmaceutical Stock, Health and Safety, Health Promotion, Person-Centred Approaches and Safe Manufacture of Quality Medicines
Entry Requirements:
To join our Diploma*, the learners must have:
- Four GCSEs at Grade C and above, including mathematics, English language, science and one other subject
- Someone with a Pharmacy Degree or a Pharmacy Technician Degree/Diploma completed outside the UK, can also join the Diploma
Mandatory for all students:
- A good character reference
- Full health check
- Employed (part-time or full-time) in a training role in a suitable pharmacy in the UK (Placement Support will be provided by the college)
Assessments:
The student must complete a portfolio of their work. This portfolio will be marked both externally and by the education provider. This method of assessment is in place to ensure that the student has met the required standards to operate as a competent technician.
The content of the portfolio must provide evidence that the student has acquired the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to meet the assessment criteria. The portfolio may include written assignments, performance reflection, oral or written questioning, personal statements, reflective logs and witness testimonies.

The purpose of this course* is to provide students with a Level 3 Diploma. Pharmacy technicians are in high demand. This course can open up countless opportunities in community pharmacy, primary care, hospital etc.

Pharmacy Technician Diploma for International Pharmacists
The "Pharmacy Technician Diploma" is a part-time course that allows International Pharmacists to gain practical experience working in a UK pharmacy environment while completing the necessary coursework to become a Pharmacy Technician. The course typically takes a 24 months to complete and is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in a pharmacy setting.
After completing the Pharmacy Technician Diploma and gaining experience in a UK pharmacy, individuals can continue working as a Pharmacy Technician while they prepare for the "Overseas Pharmacists' Assessment Programme (OSPAP)" and the other steps required to register as a Pharmacist. This allows individuals to gain valuable experience in the UK healthcare system while they work towards their ultimate goal of becoming a registered Pharmacist.
The OSPAP course is a one-year, full-time postgraduate diploma course that is designed to provide individuals with the education and training needed to practice as a Pharmacist in the UK. Once the OSPAP course is completed, individuals must then complete 52 weeks of pre-registration training in an approved training site in England, Scotland or Wales, before they can sit for the GPhC registration assessment.
By completing the "Pharmacy Technician Diploma" and gaining experience as a Pharmacy Technician, individuals can gain a valuable understanding of the UK healthcare system and pharmacy practice. This experience can be incredibly beneficial as they work towards completing the OSPAP course and other requirements necessary to register as a Pharmacist in the UK.
